The Eblen Assistance Program was developed to help meet the needs of families in Western North Carolina living with illnesses and disabilities. Beginning full-time out reach in 1992 to try to help families travel to area hospitals to obtain medical care Eblen Assistance has grown to encompass a number of outreach programs.

Eblen Assistance Programs

Dr. James T. Littlejohn Elder Outreach
Provides assistance to our elderly citizens in need of medication, medical supplies and other emergency needs. This program, named for beloved Asheville physician, Dr. James Littlejohn who pioneered and devoted much of his life and practice to those in need of medical assistance regardless of their ability to pay.
Eblen Information & Research Services
Helps to provide non-diagnostic information on illnesses, diseases, medication, and treatments. This information is not designed to be definitive in nature, but to give an overview in layman’s terms. The Eblen Information and Research Services also provide referrals to other agencies for clients seeking help.
Eblen Emergency Assistance Program
Developed to provide a vast array of assistance with non-medical needs. Realizing that living with the effects of illnesses and disabilities reaches further than the need for medication, the Eblen Emergency Assistance Program endeavors to provide help in other areas that families may need.
Emergency Food and Shelter Program
In partnership with the Buncombe County Department of Social Services the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (formally FEMA) provides federal funds to provide assistance for families in need of rent, mortgage payments, utility assistance and food.
Neal Hanks Sr. Rental/Mortgagae Assistance Program
To help in assisting those in our community who are having to decide between paying their rent or mortgage, purchasing medication, or paying for other needs, the Neal Hanks Sr. Rental/Mortgage Assistance Program was created. Inspired by the life long community service of Neal Hanks Sr., founder of Beverly-Hanks and Associates Realtor, this program reaches out assist thousands of families every year.
