The Manna/Eblen Grocery Program
Through this partnership, hundreds of thousands of pounds of food have been provided to local families who are dealing with hunger as well as illness by offering short to long term assistance through Manna Food Bank and Ingles Markets.
Food For Thought
An extension of the Manna/Eblen Grocery Program, Food for Thought works within the local school systems to provide food for local children and their families. Operating under the premise that children cannot learn if they are hungry, this partnership serves hundreds of children each year.
In addition to providing food through the Manna Food Bank, Food for Thought also provides breakfast and lunch to numerous children in our school systems every day. This aspect of the program allows children to walk through the line as their friends do and pick up their breakfast and lunch no differently than their classmates.
Another part of this program brings in an additional partner of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club to work beside Manna, Ingles, North Buncombe Kiwana's Club, Asheville Cleaners, Bell South Telephone Pioneers, Arden First Baptist Church, Biltmore Farms and Eblen Charities to help provide snacks to children in area elementary schools when their family cannot afford them.
The Eblen/DSS Food Stamp Intervention Program
Created with the assistance of Buncombe County Department of DSS Director, Mandy Stone, this partnership helps provide one time assistance to families awaiting their food stamps.
Out of concern for the families needing food stamps and the fact that they may be without food while they wait for their card to arrive, DSS joined Manna, Ingles Markets and the Eblen Charities in providing assistance to help them bridge the gap between hunger and help.
