Although we are moving quickly towards the end of summer, near record high temperatures continue to hit our mountains and with that a greater number of requests have been coming in to the Eblen Charities Waddell Client Service Center seeking help to ward off the heat that has been affecting the most vulnerable of our clients.

Since the beginning of June the Eblen Cooling Project has distributed as many fans as were given out all of last year with two months still left in helping families keep cool in the relentless heat. But thanks to the new Wicked Weed Help at Home Emergency Assistance Program more box fans will be delivered this Monday to keep those in need cool for the reminder of the summer and warm days of early fall.

When the Eblen Charities Cooling Assistance Program began this summer, Eblen Board members and friends wasted no time with their generous donations to purchase the initial order of fans that were distributed within a week of their delivery.
Two more deliveries totaling 300 fans have arrived since then with our fourth delivery set for Monday, July 31st thanks to our new Wicked Weed Partnership.

“Wicked Weed Brewing is honored to be a part of the Wicked Weed Help At Home program at Eblen Charities and we will continue to financially support and help provide whatever may be needed in our local community…especially for those that need our help the most,” states Rick Guthy of Wicked Weed Brewery.

“Eblen’s Cooling Assistance Program is every bit as important as our heating assistance during the winter months,” tells Bill Murdock, executive director of Eblen Charities. “Now thanks to the great folks at Wicked Weed and the generous donations of our board members and friends, those in our community that are suffering most from the heat will be able to find some relief in the remains warm months this summer.”

Wicked Weed Help at Home Emergency Assistance Program:

The Wicked Weed Help at Home Emergency Assistance Program is a unique partnership between Wicked Weed and Eblen Charities that not only enhances the emergency assistance outreach of Eblen Charities but offers new opportunities for Eblen and Wicked Weed to serve the community and reach out to those who find themselves battling illnesses, disabilities, or are in times of need.

Eblen Cooling Assistance Project:

Growing out of the Eblen Energy Project, the Cooling Assistance Program strives to keep local families
cool during the dog days of summer by providing fans and unit air-conditioners. As important as heat
is in the winter, keeping cool and being able to draw an unrestricted breath during the heat of the summer months is every bit as vital to those that Eblen Charities serves. It is with thanks to the assistance of the the Wicked Weed Help at Home Emergency Assistance Program, Duke Energy, Lowe’s, Eblen’s board of directors, generous friends and supporters, those struggling with the heat can keep cooler and breathe a bit easier.

Since its inception, the Eblen Energy Project has delivered hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil, natural gas, thousands of fans and assisted with electric bills to families in our community living with illnesses and disabilities.
