It may seem a bit early to be talking about Christmas, but in a quick look at the calendar Christmas is only 13 weeks away.
That is a long time for some, but for so many families who have been calling these past few weeks, Christmas is much closer than they wish.
Eblen Charities has been receiving a great number of calls daily from anxious parents hoping to provide a wonderful and memorable holiday for their children.
These wonderful families know that there will be little if anything extra to provide those they love and care for with the Christmas they are hoping to give.
During these difficult times, far too many children will wake up on Christmas morning to disappointment and empty dreams as their parents find themselves unable to fulfill their most heartfelt wishes.
That is why they come to Eblen Charities.
That is we start as early as we do with the increased number of calls we are already receiving, Eblen Charities decided to get an early start to make things easier for their clients by beginning to sign up families for the Saint Nicholas Project this Monday, October 1st, beginning at 8:00am.
As in past years, the St. Nicholas Project will have two different outreaches. One is where sponsors, companies, families, organizations, and individuals who wish to share their generosity with the children and the families we serve during this special time of the year can “adopt” a family for Christmas and provide gifts for the children of the families that Eblen Charities serves.
Sponsors can purchase gifts themselves or made a donation for gifts to be purchased for their adopted families. Groups may also drop off individual gifts at the Waddell Client Service Center at Westgate.
The second outreach of the Saint Nicholas Project is again partnering with the Smoky Mountain Toy Run, Ingles Markets, Buncombe County Schools, and a great many businesses and organizations in collecting toys throughout our community, helping provide a happy holiday to more families than ever in our community. Families can then shop for their children at the Ingles Toy Store.
We will begin the St. Nicholas Project Festivities on Saturday, November 3rd with the Smoky Mountain Toy Run beginning at 1:00 PM at Kearfott in Swannanoa. The Seventh Annual Ingles Magical Christmas Toy Drive is set for Thursday, November 29th through Saturday, December 1st at the Ingles on Tunnel Rd.
A great part of the success of the St. Nicholas Project in the past few years has been the wonderful partnership with area businesses in joining Eblen by displaying our Toy Drop-Off Boxes in their stores and offices to help collect toys throughout the months of November and December. In addition we are once again honored to be presenting the Ingles Toy Store at Westgate Shopping Center in the old Bon Marche’ / Hamrick’s Department Store, thanks to the kindness of Tony and Isa Fraga, who have donated the space for the holidays.
Growing from assisting five families our first year to assisting more than 4,500 children and their families
last year, the Saint Nicholas Project provides a bright and happy holiday for families who may not have the chance or means to enjoy them on their own.
If you or your company would like to join Eblen in the Saint Nicholas Project this year by having a Toy Drop-Off Box in your office, sponsoring a family or volunteering in the Ingles Toy Store to help us make this Christmas a memorable one for so many who have to face so much all year long, please contact Bill Murdock at 828-242-2848 or at or [email protected]
